Personal

So not so sure what to really put here the words above pretty much sum me up. I obviously have a major passion for computing and all aspects of it, from hardware to software. I have always been interested in computers from a young age but was never really focussed on it as such until University.

I was never really sure what I have wanted to achieve for a career, I knew that it would be using computers but I didn't know what area and aspects of computing I would focus in on. Up until University I was mainly focussed on the graphical side of things such as image manipulation and 3D work. I applied to Universities to do a 3D art related degree. I received an unconditional offer from Staffordshire University to do Computer Games Design, however, during the interview and open day process I found out that I had learnt all I wanted to in that area and the degree would not be amazingly challenging personally.

The option was presented to change to a Computer Games Programming degree, and changing to this was by far the best decision I have made. It gave me another chance to improve in the area I have always struggled with academically, which is Maths. This degree presented me with the challenge to improve these area. I put myself in a situation where the only option was to finally push myself this last once and achieve something worthwhile and what better time to get top marks for the first time.

In the first year of University I knew that it was the technical side of computing I would excel at. Throughout University I kept my options broad in the modules I chose, rather than going down the full 3D application programming route I chose Web Related modules as well. Reflecting back I would not have changed a thing, I do not think I could have found a better University and a better degree to shape me in to who I am now. This was extremely apparent when I had my placement, everything I had learnt in the first two years of University provided me with the working knowledge to jump straight into industry.

I am extremely open minded to working in any area of computing as I find them all just as interesting, I have got the perfect background to understand and learn new things extremely fast based on the depth and breadth of my knowledge in all areas of computing. There is obviously a focus on Graphical and Game based programming due to my degree. However, I see an extremely large overlap in everything I do and the skills I have developed, in one module at University I ended up using some Game Programming techniques using asp.net. It has been drilled into me to find the best, most efficient and most elegant solution to a problem.
